K12 Planet (Grades On-line)

GTACS invites Parents at Home into the Classroom via the Web

Forging ahead with the latest in education technology, GTACS has recently adopted a system that links teachers, students, and parents via the Internet. K12Planet.com, a customized school web site, gives parents and students secure access to a copy of the information found in the school management software - including complete details of attendance, grades, student conduct, curriculum subjects, homework assignments, upcoming events, and a host of supplementary learning resources.

Who has Access?

Parents/Guardians, Students, Teachers, Librarians, Account Managers, and GTACS Administrators all have access, at varying levels.

  • Parents and students will use K12 Planet to view grade and attendance information, homework and messages from the school staff.
  • Teachers and Librarians will use K12 Planet to post homework and post messages.
  • The Account Manager (GTACS Technology Department) will be responsible for creating user accounts and passwords, managing user accounts, and the entire K12 Planet process.

Is K12 Planet Secure?

All school data is encrypted and behind a firewall on the K12Planet server and it adheres to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). In addition it is approved by TRUSTe, an organization that ensures websites are collecting and using personally identifiable information as outlined in the strict TRUSTe guidelines, and as the website (K12Planet.com) privacy policy states. Websites that display the TRUSTe "trust mark" offer a sense of reassurance to visitors that their personally identifiable information will only be used in the way that has been stated in the website's privacy policy and no other way.

What do I need?

A computer with internet access (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator), a username and password.

How Do I Get Started?

All K12 Planet users must read the safety information below about privacy and security concerns.

Once parents have read the Safety Information, and completely understand the data collection and disseminating practices of K12 Planet, sign the Parental Consent Form and return it to GTACS Technology Department, 123 E. 11th Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. Upon receipt a secret password is issued to parents and students.

What Happens Next?

  • Open your Web Browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator)
  • Go to http://www.k12planet.com
  • Log on with your secret user name and password
