Welcome to St. Francis High School, where we emphasize that Christ is the reason for our school. This is emphasized  in our school mantra, which we recite together regularly;

"By challenging our students to be the best they can be in and outside of the classroom, we believe that, with their eyes on the cross, our students graduate from St. Francis High School prepared to succeed in life, both here on earth and in heaven with Our Father."

- Erick Chittle, Principal

St. Francis High School is a Top 50 Catholic high school, having earned distinction among the approximately 1,300 Catholic high schools in the United States. To receive this honor, the School was evaluated on the basis of academic excellence, Catholic identity and civic education.

Academic Excellence

St. Francis High School provides a rigorous curriculum based on research and best practices. Courses provide challenge for students of all ability levels, and include a variety of AP and honors selections. Dual enrollment through Northwestern Michigan College and the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District Career Tech center is also available.

The environment at St. Francis is conducive to learning. Small class sizes, dedicated teachers, K-12 curriculum planning, and parental involvement contribute to outcomes that place Traverse City St. Francis among the highest performing Catholic schools in Michigan.

  • The Traverse City St. Francis Class of 2012 had an average composite ACT score of 24.6 versus a state average of 20.1 and a national average of 21.1.
  • An average of 98% of our students go on to post-secondary education.
  • 81% of our juniors and seniors are taking at least one AP course.
  • 77% of our sophomores are taking at least one Honors course.

Admissions counselors have made it clear to us that our students perform better than the average, have fewer dropouts, and are better prepared for the pace and demands of academics.

Catholic Identity
Students at St. Francis High School receive an authentic Catholic education. There is a profound emphasis on prayer and the Sacraments, including weekly Mass, opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration and Reconciliation each week, and an emphasis on Catholic prayer and traditions. Students and their families offer a free hot meal to the area's needy through a program called GladMeals, and participate in mission trips, the March for Life, and Christian service programs. Parental commitment is important as we work together to promote growth in responsibility, confidence, competence and faith.

Beyond the Classroom

Nearly 95% of our students participate in extracurricular opportunities including athletics, drama, dance team, marching and concert band, Key Club, choir and much more! These programs instill self-discipline, team-building, self-confidence and school pride while engaging students in wholesome, enjoyable activities. A myriad of sports options exist for boys and girls, freshman through varsity levels. Nearly 75% of our students are involved in at least one athletic activity.

The Tradition Continues

In conjunction with our parents, Saint Francis seeks to produce life-long learners and contributors with a sound foundation of faith. Over 125 years of graduating classes will attest to our strong tradition in accomplishing this goal. We invite you to explore what Saint Francis has to offer your child. Call us today!
